Default Anyone doing Medium Audio Post sessions with 2018 Mac Minis or MacBooks?

Ive been using a 2009 mac pro for a while and thinking about a mac mini or macbook pro i7 2018...

I think many folks here are running fairly large sessions with these macs but wasnt sure. Mainly because of the core count. my mac has those xeon 12 cores and these new ones have 4-6 cores but the cpu is better.

so im trying to see more real world expeirence with either audio post sessions or orchestral music production projects (trailer tracks ok) etc.
just to get a feel if these newish macs can handle larger/common load projects or its the mac pro (and imacs) which are priced a lot higher.

Everyone works differently and some movies and orchestral templates are huge i know... but wondering for most poeple whats the experiences or issues (like fan noise) with these smaller macs... im a dinosour i know..

Default Re: Anyone doing Medium Audio Post sessions with 2018 Mac Minis or MacBooks?

My i7 Mini with 32 gigs of ram is working great. I'm doing post but not with a ton of tracks (20 to 30 or so) and it's holding up very well. Using a Sonnet Echo Express TB2 to a TB3 adapter for HDX and a BM Intensity Pro card...along with an OWC 6 bay TB drive enclosure and a C24.

Was worried about heat but seems to be running in the 60c - 75c range with exceptions up to 85c when rendering a video file. Very acceptable. Been great so far.

Edit: fan noise is not a problem and don't hear it really. The OWC enclosure makes more noise.
