Default PT & Mezzo ask \"Where is?\"

Using ProTools 4.3.1 and Mezzo 3.6, we record 'song 1' with the audio (tracks) distributed to three drives. When we drag 'song 1' session file to
Mezzo's Archive window, it backs up fine. Then we clean the drives and restore by dragging the 'song 1' session file to the desktop - Mezzo puts
everything back just right and upon opening the session, PT knows where everything is - all is well.

Now, if we do a SAVE AS command (as would happen when you start mixing and would like several versions of the song) and put the new session
'song 1 mix 1' into the same session folder, Mezzo does a backup (because the checkbox for BACKUP CONTENTS of session folder is checked).
Again, we clean the drives and restore 'song 1 mix 1'. All the files are restored, however upon opening the session, PT no longer knows where the
audio files are located (the dreaded "Where is...?") Before we cleaned the drives, PT knew where they were, but after the restore it didn't.

Any ideas?

Jay,
When you include a "save as" in your session file Mezzo just sees it as any other file and doesn't know to look at the new version of the sessions "directory". Only sessions that you drag to the archive window get that special treatment. All you can do is backup the "save as" as a different session... and yes it's gonna' backup all the audio files again.

Of course the session <<song 1 mix 1>> is in the same folder or level of the restored directory as the folder named <<audio files>> which contains the audio files required in the session?

Kyle,

If you select the create archivesin session folder then all thesave as will get the special treatment and the audio files won't get backed up again.

Ultrajay,

The Where is problem is that Mezzo doesn't always put things back in exactly the same place so when you open the session you need to point Protools to the correct location. Usually once you point Protools to the correct audio files folder then all is well.

If you have ended up with lots of them because of lots of using Save session as then I consolidate all the audio files and fade files into one audio and one fade files folder inside the main session folder then when resolving the where is problem the answer is always the same place.

Hope that helps,
