+1 for the pencil tool. Much faster than doing it in realtime.

If you only want to gradually lower the volume (fadeout from unity to -30 perhaps?) all you need to do is click on the volume line where you want the fade to start and end. Then drag that end point as low as you want it. There is no need to have gazillion automation points in between, PT lowers it gradually in itself.

Super easy to do. I learned this the hard way.

You can also use the mini fader in the Edit window which will give you way more throw. Display the main ruler only for more screen real estate:

Display the I/O:

Move your track to the top of the Edit window then click on the fader field to display the mini fader:

You can also lower the latency of your mouse for more accurate fader rides which no hardware controller can match, but that's a topic for another thread. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I haven't try these yet. Will get back.

You can also change your USB polling rate to 1000 Hz to get your mouse down to a 1 ms response time. Your real-time fader rides with a mouse will be very accurate and unmatched by any hardware controller out there.

There's no reason to be in "fine" to fade out a song. You might have the mouse speed set too fast to do graceful fader moves. Try slowing the speed down and see hoe that goes. Or draw a line and add points to change the contour of the fade. When you draw the line, Pro Tools automatically goes through all of the millions of steps that are in the master fader.
