Default Stone age hardware Q: ADAT + 001?

I have a crusty but workable setup, PTLE6.4 + 001R. I also have an ADAT M20 that I use to record my vocal ensemble. I would like to be able to take stuff recorded in 8 tracks on the ADAT and write it directly into Pro Tools without crunching it through another D/A-A/D cycle. Can I simply add an ADAT Bridge to do that? Or does the ADAT Bridge require a different setup from mine?

I have read the ADAT Bridge's PDF manual, I have read through an hour's worth of searched messages here plus all the old Digi FAQs and find nothing my puny brain can consider conclusive. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Greetings Thistlefarmer and welcome to the forum.

I actually still have my ADAT bridge in it's original box. Depending on the OS you're using, it might not work. The drivers are very old. If you are just transfering 8 tracks, you can use the ADAT optical lightpipe directly. You'll find the ADAT I/O on the back of the 001 PCI card on your computer.

Another thing you can do is add REAPER to help revive that old 001. A few years back I used REAPER and the 001 for an ADAT transfer station.

Hope that helps.

Shane

If your old 001/PT6.4 rig is up and running, just plug a lightpipe from the M20 lightpipe output, to the 001 lightpipe input. Create a session with 8 audio tracks. Set your clock source to optical, assign the inputs to 9 thru 16(the ADAT inputs, hit record on PT and play on the ADAT machine.

Thanks for the replies! Life intervened, couldn't get back to this project until now, and in the meantime upgraded to PT8.

Albee1952, you rock ... it was just that easy.

Now I gotta get all those tracks dumped into PT and get this supermassive black hole ADAT away from my valuables, as it seems to be swirling them into its event horizon vortex. [How much osmium did Alesis cram into these things?]

Thanks again albee1952!
