Best mic for acoustic guitar?
Maybe something that can also double as over head drum mics? But first and foremost for acoustic guitar? Was looking at the AKG C451B.

Re: Best mic for acoustic guitar?
While there is no best.....Neumann KM 184, great on guitar and as drum overhead, among other things, so getting a pair of these would be reasonable on your X-Mas wish list...

Re: Best mic for acoustic guitar?
That is also what my friend suggested. Is there anything slightly cheaper that is good? Those seem to run around 1000.00 for a pair....

Re: Best mic for acoustic guitar?
The C451B is an amazing microphone, but I'm not a fan of it on the body of the guitar..... however, I think it gives amazing results on the neck. I personally prefer something like a TLM103 (on the budget side) on the soundhole of the guitar. Getting the body of the guitar through a large diaphragm microphone and having a small diaphragm on the neck to bring out string noise is my favorite technique, along with a pair of overheads.... But I think a TLM103 combined with a C451B gives you an incredible bang for the buck. Seeing as how you want something to double as overheads, a pair of C451's will cost you $850ish or so.... FOR the money, those Rode NT5's are GOOD little microphones. I think first and foremost is to get a GOOD microphone for the body of the guitar (like a TLM103, C414, Solidtube, etc) and then maybe even get the NT5's.... use on on the neck and then you have a second one for overheads of drums when needed.... Just a thought.
