Default Re: Reboot issue affecting Apple Mac Pro

I had this exact issue today (Mac Pro 2012, Yosemite, Pro Tools HD 12.7), the Mac Pro started and shut down without reason.
I tried to restart several times with the same result.
Tried the usual tips and tricks, nothing worked.
Since recovery didn’t work either (cmd+alt+maj+R), thanks to Apple (service unavailable), I ended up starting the MacPro with my MacBook in Target mode and reinstalled the OS (Yosemite) usiing an installer I had stored.
Lost half a day of work.
I’ll leave the MacPro on until the end of the week (in the middle of different works) and will try restarting next week.
Fingers cross....

It turns off Google talking to home base. According to one source this issue might be because of Google's malware. Does no harm anyway.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue, but I had a Pace related anomaly the about 5 days ago. I couldn't log into the iLok License Manager application until I told Little Snitch to not require the Pace licenseDaemon identity to be signed by PACE Antipiracy, Inc.

Once I let Little Snitch ignore that requirement I was able to sign in.

I haven't used my Mac for Pro Tools today, and it hasn't suffered the deadly crash. I'm not going to launch it just in case. Also going to update the clone of my backup now!

Seems like this an issue. GoogleSoftwareUpdate daemon has been making my Mid 2014 MacBook Pro (OS X 10.10.5) fans spin uncontrollably today, running at over 100% CPU in Activity Monitor. I had to force quite it over and over to stop my laptop overheating.

Google have screwed something up with a silent update if you use Chrome. They shouldn't even be installing such Malware on computers against GDPR regs, right?

GDPR doesn't prevent malware, it only forces Google to ask your consent for installing. Are you sure you have read everything you have clicked Agree

Sometime ago I removed the GoogleSoftwareUpdate stuff on my Macs as everytime I opened Google Earth it kept asking for updates and there weren't any. Followed this link: https://raam.org/2008/howto-remove-g...e-on-mac-os-x/

If this really is a Google problem Avid should make a statement, they're getting terrible press.

I'm sure Avid makes a statement once they are 100% sure what is behind this issue and how to prevent/fix it. They already have an announcement on technical alerts, I expect they don't just leave it there.

I think he's suggesting that they get out in front of that. I'd issue a statement attaching Google's name to it, worded so as not to (yet) point fingers. Because, yeah, this story continues to grow in popularity and it looks bad.
