Totally agreed, some of my libraries are on my system drive as some VIs don't allow you to specify the location on your drives for their libraries. Whilst what cannot fit or can have its location specified are stored on my external drives.

As long as the fusion drive works reliably with the app, VIs & samples then that would be absolutely great.

What I really want to know is if this particularly model has any inherent problems from its design like what I have experienced with the GPU overheating issue on my late 2011 Macbook Pro.

Much thanks for you help musicman691

I think you mean TB-FW800 and 7200RPM drive.

The latter was easy enough to understand, but the former needs clarification as his machine has no FW ports.

The TB-FW adapters work fine, even when going down to FW400. Done it on a few different Macs over the years with different interfaces and they e all worked as they should.

What sampler program doesn't allow you to move the libraries themselves? Kontakt and EW Play will let you move the libraries anywheres you want whether during or after install. The only thing reliable with a Fusion drive is you will have all kinds of weird issues. Save yourself that headache and put in an ssd. That's a major issue with any Mac with a Fusion drive.

I hear you musicman691.

Before the Native Access installer for NI Komplete, the service center installer did not give the option to decide the location for its content. My third party Kontakt libraries like String Essentials, Classical Collection & Vintage Horns do not give the option to specify location as well as Logic Pro X content.....but it is only some stuff.

I totally agree with you to swap out the FD for a SSD but I'm not sure (still trying to find out) if the late 2012 iMacs use Sata III connectivity internally so it it may not be possible. I've read that SSD part of the FD is soldered to the logic board.

My personal machine is a mid-2011 with same specs and it's GREAT! Mine, however, came with a 256GB SSD for the system and an internal 1TB 7200RPM for other stuff... the 2011 had space for both and I took advantage of it.

I am running 2018 on High Sierra without any issues.

You're wrong about the old Service Center stuff. I and others moved stuff around at will and never had a problem. Install the content where you want and point Kontakt to it - it's that simple. Don't believe me see this: Can I move my NI software or Libraries to another location on my computer?

Ni service center does not allow you to specify the content location, it only allows you to specify where installation files will be downloaded to: https://support.native-instruments.c...ervice-Center-

Not all NI installers allow you to specify the content location and my third party installers did not, I agree you can move the content & when you launch Kontakt it shows content missing where you then point its 'locate content' window to the path where it is kept. Logic Pro X does not allow you to specify where it stores that content.

Your link is broken: 404 not found.
