Default Using 2 DAWs together for different purposes

I've come to the conclusion that yes, using midi and virtual instruments in pro tools is something I will never, ever get used to. I just don't like it and that's me.

What I want to ask is. Does anyone here actually use two different DAWs together? Like ableton for midi and music production and then pro tools to mix, master, and use of audio instruments?

Yeah. Tell me the story behind why. I'm actually very interested to know the set ups and equipment.

Me also, Logic and Pro Tools synced via the iac bus on a Mac. I do it because I never have liked Pro Tools for midi and I have never liked Logic for audio ... :)

sad but true, PT isn't the king of MIDI but the starting point has always been audio whereas Logic lives by its MIDI and audio is just necessary evil

Idk I'll think of something. Whenever I get on midi on pro tools, I feel like a 5 year old. I just can't compose or do anything.

Yeah me too. I started using Logic in 1996 so it's not like I don't know it. The Logic MIDI editor hasn't changed much since then. I like the PT one much better. It has multiple controller lanes, better multitrack editing IMO, no tool swapping. There's far too much MIDI stuff PT can't do of course.

Getting back OT I'm in the same boat as the OP. Talking of MIDI editors, the one in Cubase is amazing.... expression maps.... dreamy. I've not managed to get a good workflow going with Cubase, PT and VE Pro though so I too would be interested in any sucess stories. I've tried IAC but just getting the MIDI feedback loop from hell!!!

Digital Performer has it all over PT for serious MIDI work. It's not that MIDI in PT can't work but there are better tools for the job.

IAC bus with All Logic-Vi's/Sounds via MainStage.
DP9
Notion6

All depends on need. All ends up in Pro Tools.
However, Pro Tools MIDI with Commit makes MIDI in Pro Tools the best it's ever been.
