All good. Well, it is almost 5am in Perth so that would make sense.

@ frcjt, if you look at the pic you’ll see where to change BITRATE for an MP3. Select at least 192 (320 is better) and see if that makes any difference in your MP3

Indeed, my 320 mp3 bounces are nearly indistinguishable from the wave bounce. This begs the question; how are you listening to the mp3? Assuming iTunes or WMP(or similar), check the settings to make sure the program is not using some "sonic enhancement" or EQ. Also, check the on-board sound card properties for similar(my Windows rig defaulted to some awful-sounding fake surround setting)

This morning I am going to trash all my prefs and apply all the other optimization recommendations from Avid and see if it helps.

The point is, when I convert the WAV file outside of Pro Tools, everything is fine

Thanks

I tried doing the Bounce off-line and on-line with no difference.

If, however, I take the WAV file and convert it with some other software application the mp3 if fine. Just as clear as the WAV or AIFF files.

Does anyone know what's happening? How can this function be so sub-par?

I always bounce a 320 mp3 along with a wav. It sounds pretty darn good.
