Uninstall before installing update?
Maybe it's because I'm tired today, but do I need to uninstall 2019.12 Ultimate before installing 2020.5 Ultimate, or can I just install as usual?
I thought I read something, but I may have read it wrong. But since we're on the subject, everything cool with 2020.5? I missed 2020.3 because I didn't have time to deal with the update, and I don't need to go down for a few days. Media Man

On Mac we have never uninstalled as there isn’t an uninstaller for OSX so just run it over the old. If PC then as said you need to uninstall first.
I would do a clean uninstall of the HD Driver of you use HDN/HDX as that driver can make weirdness happen if not uninstalled first and a clean install of the correct HD driver version.

On Mac, I always rename the old version (usually with a version number) then install the new. That way I can easily run the old version (in most cases) if there is an issue with the update.

For years I just installed over existing version. Then one time I accidentally clicked an installer for my current version. It offered to uninstall, so I did just for the heck of it. When I reinstalled, my performance was dramatically improved. With all my over the previous installs, the lowest buffer I could run was 256, and that was iffy. After the clean install I can run 64 or even sometimes 32 buffer. Now, on Windows, I always uninstall first.

I always do a complete uninstall before installing. It's just better.

I'm also on Win 10. I have never uninstalled before updating... if I uninstall PT then install newer version... will I lose all my plugins I currently have from PT?

Half the time I uninstall, half the time I don't. It doesn't seem to matter. The one thing I always do after an update is delete the PT Prefs file.
