Facepalm - No video playback
Hey all, please help!
My video player has decided to stop playing back. I can import video fine, thumbnails populate as normal, frame rate matches project, DNxHD codec and I can even click and jump about in the timeline and the video window will display the frame at which I've clicked with only the expected lag of a second or so. But when I hit play the video window stays on the first frame and doesn't move! No spikes in CPU, no severe lag in audio, no smoke coming out of my mac. It just doesn't play back. I've deleted my pro tools prefs. I've tried playing videos with different codecs. I've tried playing video from my HD instead of my external media drive. Cant work it out. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance iMac 2015 3.2GHz i5 24GB RAM OS X 10.11 ProTools 2018.7 |

Re: Facepalm - No video playback
Hi jason, I face the same thing, but in my case just after installing PT 2019.10
Different codecs don't help. Using a Mac mini as video satellite here.. |

Re: Facepalm - No video playback
Took us a full day to find a solution for that exact problem on PT Ultimate 2019.10 (OSX10.13.6) yesterday.
Our fix was to change the Cmnd+2 Session Setup window field: "Video Ref Format" from 1080i - 47.952 / 1080psf - 23.976 to 1080p - 23.976 In your case, perhaps check Clock Ref and Clock Source as well... we found it initially by clocking a newly created PT session internally instead of clocking to house which instantly fixed QT playback. We then tweaked the Format and Clock Source together to get it working fine. Before anyone chimes in... we sometimes use psf when outputting to HDCAMSR. Good luck! Cheers

Re: Facepalm - No video playback
I have had a similar issue that turned out to be related to the filename path. Either the file or a folder had a character that PT didn't like. Once it was just to many characters on too many folders.

Re: Facepalm - No video playback
I have experienced this same issue, but with Pro Tools 2019.6 and 2019.10 co-installed with Avid Media Composer 2018.12.7 or later. It has happened on various CPU and OS configurations.
I first discovered the issue on all 21 stations in our editing lab, with trashcan Mac Pros running Mac OS 10.13.6, MC 2018.12.7, and PT 2019.6. Uninstalling MC 2018.12.7 and installing MC 2018.12.6 resolved the issue. The issue occurred on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) running Mac OS 10.14.6, with MC 2018.12.7 co-installed with PT 2019.6. Again, uninstalling MC 2018.12.7 and installing MC 2018.12.6 resolved the issue. Video playback on my iMac was also fine with Pro Tools 2019.10 and MC 2018.12.6 co-installed. I tried MC 2019.9, and the issue returned. I tried uninstalling both MC and PT, and reverting to PT 2019.10 co-installed with MC 2018.12.6, but the issue persisted. To resolve the issue, I had to restore a Time Machine backup from before the MC 2019.9 update. |
