Faster OS Hd or faster Audio Hd????
very simple:
is it better to have a faster OS hard drive or a faster audio drive.... beside there are 2MB and 8MB cache.... (i know always bigger it's better, but what if i can't afford always the best???)

faster OS drive. better yet, get 2 and put your swap file on one of them. a faster audio drive won't make you more productive, in fact, you probably won't notice a difference at all (assuming you already have a 7200 rpm drive for audio).

What about having a WD Raptor for audio only?

Re: Faster OS Hd or faster Audio Hd????
the rapter for audio certainly can't hurt, but its sort of like buying a nitrous tank for your ferrari. you can already exceed the speed limit with very little effort, so its sort of a waste of money if you're not driving at le mans.
a fast OS drive, on the other hand will make your OS speedier. windows will come up quicker, menus pop up quicker, and adding a second raptor for your swap file will enhance it even further. even PT should work a bit faster for certain things, but i wouldn't expect a big performance boost after the program has loaded (the program itself should load faster, but once its open, it resides mostly in RAM, therefore, no real effect from a faster drive). a fast OS drive(s) is really just an enhancement for windows. but the main thing is that a 7200 rpm drive can handle 32 tracks without breaking a sweat. if you're doing more tracks than that (on a HD setup or *ahem* a digi competitor's system), then a faster drive would make more sense. but even then, it would be preferrable to split the load among 2 or more drives, and since 7200 rpm drives are cheaper... well, you get the picture.

Re: Faster OS Hd or faster Audio Hd????
I'll make the computer sick and put 2 Raptors in for audio and one for the OS.
