Default Dolby E layback to a SWR-5500 Need Tri Level?

Hi All,
Quick question. If I am laying back a Dolby E data stream to a SRW-5500, do I need to be locked to tri-level if the frame rate is 29.97 drop? I think I only need tri-level sync when I layback to 23.98. Is that correct? Thanks for the help.
Best,
Brandon

Ultimately, you need to be locked to whatever the deck is locked to. But your thinking is correct: standard black burst is fine for laying back to HDCAM at 29.97.

Thanks. I just didn't know if a dolby e data stream had different requirements then standard digital audio.

If you are laying back a pre-encoded Dolby E stream, it is just PCM audio that happens to be a Dolby E stream. The deck just needs to be synchronized. Tri-level sync does need to be used with Dolby E hardware encoders in certain situations for it to properly sync.

Thanks Paul. That's why I asked the question. The studio is locked to black but hasn't upgraded to tri-level yet.

Brandon
