Default More errors when clocking from external AD/DA...DIGI PLS HLP

Hi Guys,

I have recently added an RME ADI-2 to my 002r setup. I was getting persistent error messages today (lower H/W buffer etc) when clocking from the adi-2. It was really annoying and in the end I switched back to internal since I had a client waiting. I have by no means done lots of testing with the adi-2 but I do like what I hear from it.

The interesting thing is that none of the errors referred to an invalid clock choice, but I am wondering if clocking to an external device taxes PT more thereby causing issues with H/W buffer etc.

I just would like some thoughts on the reliability (or otherwise) of clocking to external ADDA's?

I'm running G5, 002r, PT 7.4cs3

THX

What are the error numbers you're getting?

I had this same problem when clocking my 002r to my Rosetta 200.

Finally gave up and used Digital Performer.

I can't remember what the error numbers were but it was mentioned in the message that the problem could be a clocking error.

-6085 messages n various songs with different h/w buffer settings.

I have used the preferences trasher (and emptied the trash)

Its strange as I am able to monitor through the RME D/A, so its not as if its rejecting it outright.

Any ideas?

Bump.

Just to add a few details:

I am running PTLE 7.4 CS4 (the latest one I think?)

I have used my Lacie via a FW800 in the past with no problems, but it seems recently to cause issues, so as of now I am running it via FW400 (back port of G5)

002r via front FW port, cable length about 3 foot (I have used this cable for the past year with no issues)

I am wondering if installing a new FW PCI card will help, so that the drive and the interface are on different buses?

Anyway, would appreciate some feedback, surely It is possible to use an external AD/DA effectively with the 002?

THX!

Being doing it for several years now, trouble free mostly with a Rosetta 800 and a G5.

I do run the 002R and my drives on the two separate FireWire connectors (front and back).
