Default Good book on tracking / recording technique?

I'm looking for a good book to read on recording technique. I say recording / tracking because I'm not so much interested in mixing techniques right now.

Is there an agreed upon "bible" of tracking... microphone positioning, room acoustics, gain structures, compression philosophy and implementation... everything related to getting the best sound possible?

The only real agreement is if it sounds right it is right.
But different people have different ideas on what is right.

A bit of education has never hurt anybody.
You can still build your personal style. But will be better equipped to do so.

You might be looking for something like The Recording Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinski.

Modern Recording Techniques by David Miles Huber is a classic.

There are many more but you can start your journey there...
