Suggestions for getting a non-stiff, warm clean sound?
I've been having some trouble getting a really good, warm clean sound with my 11R. Most of the sounds I've been able to get are too stiff in the high-end and don't seem to breath the way the mid and high-gain models do. I'm mostly interested in the 2, 4 and 5 positions for clean sounds on my Suhr S1.
I usually like my clean to have just enough gain so that I can get a bit of that Fender style compression and sustain when I dig in on a bend with my neck single coil. Any suggestions/patches to start with? Thanks! |

Re: Suggestions for getting a non-stiff, warm clean sound?
Do you have the ERXP?
If so, have you checked out my BSC Mega Pack? Lots of good clean sounds in there. Also the my clean Knucklehead and Clean Diezel Rigs sound great on my setup. Of course I only use active pickups, so they will sound different with passive pickups. And "good tone" is very subjective, but they may be what you want, or a starting point you can build off of. Also checkout the Original 47 Rigs I have posted, I dont use any of the high gain sounds from that pack anymore, but the clean sounds I do still use. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=277141

Re: Suggestions for getting a non-stiff, warm clean sound?
I'm also creating my own rigs right now, with a lot of clean ones. What I found work best is to start with an empty rig and only an amp (no cab to start with for clean sounds) and sets all parameters to default "middle" values, and then tweak it from there.
I then record a track that I would use the rig for, and using reamping with a dry track I try various configurations, add the cab, and a few effects (compressor, eq, reverb/delay, a bit of chorus or phaser). By replaying the same track with various settings helped me a lot to understand what some effects do by themselves or combined with other effects. Using active pickups (EMG) and mostly down-tuned 7- and 8-strings guitars, I found it interesting to use a bass amp (blue line) with guitar cab, or no cab at all to get warmer sounds. The "DC" amp is good as well. I hope this helps Julien |
