Purchased this for my Pro Tools Vanilla perpetual license. I'll let it expire this December and have it go as long as it possibly can (years down the road) before I will use it. At least that seems to be the best way forward at the moment.

I think they worded it in a very particular way. With cross-grading, you are surrendering what you currently have in favor of the new one.

IMO cross-grading to the same DAW shouldn't even be an option. Just keep the subscription a separate thing. If that is the way going forward, then leave perpetual licenses alone.

If Avid developers are reading these, forums, please take note. These pricing schemes are confusing and no one enjoys worrying about this kind of thing. From an outsiders perspective, it feels like your development isn't going into your product, that your R&D is all going into finding new ways to pay for the software.

This business model does not make much sense. Your own clients don't like the idea of having to spend more money to lose their perpetual license in return.

In terms of features, we have not gotten a whole lot this year in 2019. And bug fixes have felt suboptimal as well.

I'm on Windows, so Pro Tools ultimate still does not function with a high res display.

I cannot make a fair statement on this. I don't have inside information voodoo. If Avid is doing just fine, then I'm happy for you. But if Avid is struggling as a company, maybe things are a little difficult at the moment (you did have to change your CEO and closed down all Sibelius development in what appeared to be a desperate measure), those are problems of the company's own making.

As one of many, many Avid customers, I want to feel GOOD about upgrading the software. I don't want to feel BAD. Right now, almost everyone does not feel good about it. They feel the opposite of good.

Some people have been irrational or unfair in their criticism, yes, but those relations are born out of resentment that didn't just come out of nowhere.

The fact is, there is a lot you could do to improve your public image and brand loyalty. I hope things improve for 2020. I am optimistic, but something does have to change.

Agree completely! If Avid is struggling at this point, it is their fault for mistreating their customers over the past few years with "money grab" greedy business changes. It may have served them well at the moment they made those changes, but they are slowly losing more and more of their faithful fan base and as one that is still holding on, I also feel BAD about about keeping up to date with a company that is just so brutal, greedy and ridiculous in their decisions. If they did the opposite of what they have been doing, they would be doing so much better financially. This is all Karma. Treat your customers well and they will take care of you. Treat them poorly and you will find yourself doing poorly.

Maybe for easy of understanding (quite a few people seem to have questions about moving to subscription) Avid could rename it "Lossgrade to Subscription" instead of "Crossgrade ...". Admittedly not brilliant marketing but hey, users might pickup on the honesty.

I think it would be wonderful thing that Avid would Sell Pro tools to another company that know how to treat customers. It would be a win-win-win.

Or even better "Gross-grade" because of the way they try to eliminate perpetual licenses through subscription...it is disgusting!

Cheers!

Has anybody found a way to get more than 15% off of renewals?

That could have saved me a lot of money on a lot of things over the years. If only "don't buy it" was part of my vocabulary. Is there therapy for that?
