My PC is very powerful. But I think you are right.
Don't really have many or any options with Pro tools first. But maybe it fixed itself in the background.

I was thinking that the i/O setting were reset because of the reinstall, and that solved it.

Yes, I also think it was the registry tweak I had done too. Maybe they have hidden these options for 'first', I can understand. However, when it goes wrong somehow, there may be a problem. Only cleaning out the registry of anything 'Avid', did this possibly fix the issue. Maybe just a windows issue.

I do like using PT, and I will use it a lot for certain tweaking and projects I have time for and want to spend 90% of the time actually playing the instruments, but for the projects that I need to knock up quick and get out there within the hour....audacity wins by 10x. By the time I've typed this, I could have imported wav files, cleaned them up, added some very simple effects and exported to mp3. With pro tools, it'll still be loading up.
But it is the professional option that's for sure, when it comes to doing it properly, as I said before, i go to the studio where there is an guy who knows his stuff and does it for a living....he'll use...yes USE, protools. I just tinker.
Last year did 3 albums, 2 were on pro tools. (in a studio obviously).

When you are serious about learning to edit in PT buy one of these to get you started. They come in mac/win and while usually US layout some have non-US layouts as well

Very affordable. Just wipe down the keyboard with rubbing alcohol and let dry first(with computer off)
