Default MACBOOK PRO 15 Quad Core I7 2.2g

Looking to purchase this MBP. For portable studio. Will be running PT11

MACBOOK PRO 15 Quad Core I7 2.2g

It's used $1400, still user warranty until Mai 2014.

Is this a good buy?

Sounds decent, though I would always try to talk them down a bit.

For an external audio drive, what what's recommended?

For ProTools work, MAKE SURE you get one with the 16 gig RAM option. The RAM is welded to the motherboard, and there's literally no way of upgrading it. I had that machine, and made the mistake of getting only 8 gig of RAM. I had to trade it away, 'cos it's just not enough.

Usually the build-it-yourself option. Then you can install whatever well-performing drive you want, such as the highly recommended WD Caviar Black.

These enclosures (and/or drives inside) work great.

For AC powered:

For bus powered:

And for Thunderbolt:

Are you sure? The RAM in Macbook Pros have always been replaceable. I've been servicing Macbook Pros for many years but I've never seen one with RAM welded on.

Yes we're sure. The modern MBP's and MBA's really have their memory soldered to motherboard.

Must be 2011 model, right? Last one with non-soldered memory...
