I have a 2007 2.2GHz macbook pro and my frineds $2500 15" 09 version kills mine as far as the plugins it can run, and don't get me started on the latency issue. He can open quite a few tracks with plugs, and record BFD lite at 32 sample buffer.

Mine throws errors occasionally at 128 while tracking with Superior 2.0. Anyway, I think that the new ones are the way to go, get an expresscard if you have to, who cares if it runs fast and stable?

Just to echo what he said, you can also get an express card and track to an E-SATA drive (which I do) and that's way better than daisy chaining.

what do you mean by you can't use both speed simultaneously?

The ports share a bus, and attaching a 400 speed device at the same time as an 800 will lower the bus speed to 400, thus negating any speed benefits from the 800 drive.

The new macbook pros are the same, though they only have 1 port. If you chain an 800 device and a 400 device the bus will drop to 400,

An expresscard will allow you to use both on separate busses.
