Got it*. Hope it does what you need it to do.

*Although I'd push back to point out that it's an illusion of wimpiness based almost entirely on volume. IOW, you think it's less wimpy because it's louder.

I have just about everything from Waves that I would need; most of the Abbey Road stuff except for King's Mics and the Vinyl. Demo'd the Maserati and Schep's Particles and they did nothing that made me want to part with the funds. Ditto for the Linear Multiband Compressor which I pretty much have covered with the HOFA IQ-EQ save for the linear part.

Don't forget our old friends the Fletcher-Munson curves which it seems like you may be referencing.

Nothing to do with Fletcher-Munson. Just pointing out that applying even a few dB of peak limiting (all of them have auto make up gain) gives the illusion of less wimpiness since there's always a level jump.

I suppose if you must use them, you could/should use the link feature (ties threshold and output ceiling) to keep the level the same.

Both Blue Cat Dynamics (the output peak limiter) and Protector have defeatable auto makeup gain if I so desire to use that and I usually do.

And as to keeping the levels the same (or close to it) I have standalone metering plugins on both the input to any limiter I use and the output of said limiter to ride herd on the levels.

So far I've managed to keep my clients happy and that's what counts. I may not do big production stuff but I have a sound that people come back for.

The reason I mentioned F-M is louder volumes tend to change the apparent frequency balance so it's not just overall level but certain freqs that will become more prominent.

Yeah. It definitely is. However it tends to be rather clean and transparent. Anyway it's worth the money indeed.
Much less artifacts than any of the Waves still being very musical. One of the nicest ones of the PA's. imo

Clean & transparent I like a lot. I'm starting to like the sound of some of the Brainworx plugins - their Bassman emulation gets a good workout for when I don't need the sound of an Ampeg.

I love this one for separate tracks or buses. A little bit of XL is almost always nice and the limiting is transparent so I would say it destroys your audio less than most of the contenders. A gem.

This is a good sounding limiter with transparent effect.
So in my opinion it's worth buying it.

After working with it for a while I do like the transparency it has. My jury is still out on XL; I'm finding the less the better.
