Default DAV BG-1 into Profire 2626?

I'm about to embark on purchasing some mic pres to help open up my sound a bit and am currently looking at the DAV products. From everything I've read, these things are really good, and not just for the money. I have little experience with pres apart from whats in my profires so I'm starting out not spending 1000's.

Anyway, the soundonsound review of these units makes a very loud point of not running these into semi-professional recording interfaces due to the output of the BG-1s. I'm thinking I'd safely assume the profire is a prosumer product, so I'm wondering if this warning applies to me.

Several hours of internet searching yields many many positive reviews for these things without mentioning this limitation. Does anyone here use the DAV pres? If so, what do you record through?

On a side note, if anyone has any experience in the world of pres can you let me know if I'm actually going down the right path, or if I really should be biting the bullet and going the $1000+ pre channel pres to get a significant improvement over my stock pres.

Thanks guys as always.....

Default Re: DAV BG-1 into Profire 2626?

Hi
I bought a DAV BG-1 a few months ago and I am very, very happy with it. It is really good quality at that price range and I get excellent results with an acoustic bass (DI'd) as well as female vocals through my Neumann 103.

As for the sound level output, I too was concerned about that as something negative was said about this in a Sound on Sound review I read about the BG 1. It said something which implied you could blow speakers and generally wreck your gear due to the signal being too hot. If this is what you are referring to, then it really isn't an issue - all you need to do is turn down the output of the signal (on the BG-1, I mean).

I emailed Mick Hinton, the man behind DAV electronics, and he pretty much said how irritated he was by that review and that it was misleading. His contact details are on his website http://www.davelectronics.com/enquiries.htm

For what it's worth, besides promptly reassuring me, his service was really good - he even made up and included to XLR to jack patch leads, free of charge!

Hope this helps- Peter.

P.S. forgot to say, I just take a lead out of the DAV BG-1 into one of inputs 5-8 on my Digi 002.

Thanks for that, you pretty much answered my question perfectly.

So, i'm looking at the 2 channel rack mount unit as it has a dedicated DI. How do you go about DIing you bass into the BG-1?
