Default MIDI sequencing

Hello, I am used to using performer for mac at school... I have a pc, I am trying to find a solution. I am planning to buy a midi express xt and some sound modules (jv1010 and mu50). I want to be able to sequence full songs, I think I will be using sonar for this, but I would deffinately like to use protools for the editing. can protools work with sonar's sequencer and my midi controller to sync all the tracks in my sequence as they are played into seperate tracks in pro tools? I am somewhat new to this and I dont want to spend alot of money and waste it...
