From the posts I've read here, If you crossgrade (for $349) to Protools 9, you will surrender your Protools 8 M-Powered license. If you want to keep your Protools 8 M-Powered license, you can purchase a full Protools 9 license ($599). I'm not sure if you want to put both licenses on the same iLok or on separate iLoks. In previous versions, you could have both Protools LE and Protools M-Powered on the same machine (provided they are the same version like 7.4 or 8.0). I'm not sure if Protools 9 works the same way.

Could you be more specific about why?

PT9 has shown an actual performance improvement for me. If your computer can handle 8, it should handle 9 no problem. It's also better than M-Powered by a long shot. If you have a 2626... you will actually be able to use all 26 I/O or go up to 192k!

I bought the Full Version of Pro Tools 9 so I could keep my Pro Tools 8 M-Powered license. I bought a brand new 500GB, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache Hard Drive and Dual Booted the hard Drive, I put my Vista Business 32bit and Pro Tools 8 M-Powered on onet side got it totally stable, then Booted Windows 7 64bit on the other partition and loaded Pro Tools 9. So I have Pro Tools 8 M-Powered on Vista Business 32bit and Pro Tools 9 Windows 7 64bit. Well after all of that I never use the Pro Tools 8 M-Powered side ever, not even once since Pro Tools 9 plays so well and was so stable from the first install w/ all my Plug-Ins. So really it was a waste, altho if PT9 ever blows up I will be safe.

Check the Buy and Sell section of the DUC. Theres a copy of PT9 for sale for 279.00 including iLok transfer. By far you best deal. That way you can keep your existing PT8 MPowered asset. Or you can have the seller mail you an iLok with the PT9 asset on it.

My Macbook Pro is much older than yours. It handles PT9 like a dream.
