I wonder if this has anything to do with waiting until December:

Quote:
Apple has seeded a new version of Snow Leopard (Build 10A190) to developers this morning. Last night they had emailed ADC members that a preview build of Snow Leopard was made available to them, but the download links were not live until this morning.

Snow Leopard is the codename for the next major revision of Mac OS X. Apple has said that they would be focusing on quality and performance in Snow Leopard. In particular, Apple has made it clear that there will be efforts to improve support for multi-core processors and GPU processing. These improvements will help developers more efficiently use these capabilities that already ship in Macs. http://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/25/...-to-developers
Since a major OS update from Apple seems likely around the same time, maybe Digi is waiting to get those multi-core improvements.

Snow leopard won't be released before next summer. I don't think Digi is waiting for anything from it to release PT 8.

I just hope they have started looking into it for a future version of PT. SL would certainly be of some help in the performance area, at least for PT LE...

is the PT8 upgrade really an "upgrade" or is it a clean install with a license upgrade.

The 7.3 -> 7.4 upgrade appeared to be a whole re-installer in the packge (note appers to be, not IS).

Would it be advisable for 7.4 users to actaully upgrade the 7.4 install or actually use PT8 as a clean install platform ?

Most upgrades are full installers, including the one for Pro Tools 8. Windows users typically need to do an uninstall of the previous version before installing, while Mac users can run the installer over the current version.
