Default Backward Compatibility with PT8 to PT7

I have been sending PT files back and forth with other computers for awhile. Now some people have upgraded to PT8. When they send me ptf files I can't open them and get an error message saying that the version is too new. I'm using the MBox Factory with PT version 7.0.

What needs to be done to get around this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response.

My friend did that and he was telling he could only save it as a ptf file in 7.2. I find that hard to believe. Can it be saved as a 7.0 file using version 8?

I forgot to mention that I couldn't open the file he sent me and I received the same error message about the file being a newer version.

8.0 sessions should open up fine in 7.0+; If the 8.0 sessions include newer features, they simply won't be implemented (see the compatibility grid below for more details.)

However, your friend mentioned 7.2, which means HD. From what I understand, you might need version 7.1cs3+ to read 7.2+ HD session files on an LE system, but I'm not sure (can anyone else confirm?)

Thanks for all the help.

One friend did an upgrade with a company called Black Lion. It's not an HD system but with upgrade it's similar. He saved the file in version 7.3 and that didn't open. So I'm not sure what the story is with this.

I'll have him try saving it as 6.9 pt session and see what happens.
