Default Windows 10 Home or Pro

I have just ordered a new PC build and was going to have Windows 10 Home installed as I have no use for the added features such as networking and encryption. However, I am now wondering if I should pay the premium for the Pro version as Home apparently provides no option to turn off the automatic update of device drivers. I am concerned about potential problems such as Windows trying to update my audio interface (RME UFX) without my knowledge etc. I would appreciate some advice and also comments of people who have been using Home or Pro. Thanks.

Actually I think it's now become possible to turn off automatic updates in the Home version of Windows 10:

From what i remember there was a similar discussion about Windows 7 some years ago. I think most people reccomended Windows 7 Home because it has the least amount of processes and services running (potencially affecting Pro Tools while running).

Not shure if this applies also for Windows 10 Home.

Thanks Christian. From what I've read over the last couple of days is that last fall Microsoft modified Windows Home to allow the user to disable the automatic update of drivers. However, some people maintained that Windows continued to reinstall a problematic driver even after the user had disabled that function. I was using Windows 8.1 without issue when the OS drive failed (the drive and other components were five years old prompting the decision to go with a whole new build).

Tom, what prompted you to go with Pro? Are you running a network?

At the time, Pro was the only choice for preventing updates. Plus, I did the update to 10 from 8.1 Pro. I don't know of any reason Pro why would be better than Home for Pro Tools.

Running Pro here too. PT seems to run pretty well, just know that Windows 10 is still not officially supported.

The Pro and Enterprise Editions are approved for Media Composer.

Yes, I'm aware that Windows 10 is not approved for PT yet but thought that in the long run it would be inevitable. However, your information about Pro and Media Composer makes me think Pro might be the right decision for PT. Do you know if Pro introduces a layer of complexity that is more difficult to set up or causes more of a burden on the system than Home?

Thanks for everyone's input. As I need this build done ASAP (as I have to edit some photographs in Lightroom & Photoshop CC) within a few days for a client) I decided to err on the side of caution and go with Windows Pro. While it is speculation at this point, the fact that Avid has approved Pro and not Home for Media Composer may translate to a similar approval designation for PT when that eventually transpires.
