Can I mix PCIe and PCI-X Accel cards on one computer?
Hello,
I am building a reverb rig to expand my current HD7 main rig. The Mobo I have bought features a single PCI-X slot (alongside several PCIe slots) and I am wondering if I can utilize it to expand my current Core + 1 Accel (both PCIe)? The slots are adjacent to each other so I should be able to use a standard TDM flex cable. Many thanks for your help!

Indeed, the solution is to grab a used Magma chassis that only needs a single slot on the motherboard

Yep; mixing PCI-X and PCI-e is like filling diesel fuel to a regular car

Re: Can I mix PCIe and PCI-X Accel cards on one computer?
Thank you very much for all the replies. My MoBo sports 4 adjacent PCIe slots so I could go up to HD4 if I wanted to.
However, the current HD2 cards I am using are spares for my HD7 and I have been debating whether to add more cards or not. Seeing that this is going to be a reverb/FX slave rig connected to my main rig via MADI I don't really need TDM. So I am looking to install an RME MADI FX and run the whole thing natively in the long term. I will be using an overclocked i7 3930K using either Mixbus32 or Reaper. Since I mix in stems I am looking to run a fair amount of live FX plug-ins on the slave rig, perhaps 20 instances each of Altiverb 7, Sonnox OXF Reverb, Valhalla Room and a few other ones like Ohmforce. I will connect 64 I/O from TDM via HW INS to the Native Slave to have access to newer/modern plug-ins which end up eating RAM on my PT10 and voices on busses. Does anybody have any experience whether the above plug-in count is achievable?
