Default PT 10.3.7 user trying to get back to 10.3.5

Hi everyone. I have an issue that hopefully someone else has also had. I recently upgraded to PT 10.3.7 from 10.3.5 because I thought it was a good thing to do. However since I made the switch, I have had strange issues crop up every once in a while. For instance I have sometimes not been able to open a session. The session starts to open and then just hangs as it starts loading the session tracks, plugins etc. I have had to do a forced shut down to get out of that situation and then run Disk Utility, etc. Eventually the session does open but not after performing various utilities like repair disk permissions and repair disk. I have also dumped prefs. I don't recall these issues cropping up with 10.3.5. So I saw a few posts saying that 10.3.7 was not a necessary upgrade unless PT 11 was going to be involved. Is that true? I thought that could be the case so I decided to go back to what I thought was the more stable version, 10.3.5. So I uninstalled the 11.0.0 002/003 drivers (I have a 002R) and then uninstalled PT 10.3.7. Then I reinstalled the drivers intended for PT 10.3.5 (10.3.3 drivers), and then reinstalled PT 10.3.5. Everything appeared to install successfully but when I tried to launch PT 10.3.5 I got the purple PT splash screen for about 1/2 a second and then nothing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 10.3.3 drivers and PT 10.3.5, each time with a successful installation but the same thing kept happening, PT purple splash screen for 1/2 second then nothing. I am really at a loss here. I figure that this has something to do with the 11.0.0 drivers leaving files behind that are hindering the 10.3.3 drivers but I don't know how that can happen if I did an 11.0.0 driver uninstall. Can anyone help me on this one?

First, is 10.3.7 really better for me than 10.3.5, understanding that I have no intention yet of doing anything PT11 related yet?

Second, how can I successfully get back to PT 10.3.5, which seemed to be far more stable for me?

I am running a 2.66 GHz iMac with 8MB RAM and Snow Leopard 10.6.8 OSX. I had no issues whatsoever with 10.3.5 running on this platform. Thanks in advance if anyone can enlighten me on what I am missing.

Short answer, clean uninstall of 10.3.7, install 10.3.5.

So you mean perform the uninstall that is NOT recommended? That wipes out plugins and everything right? Are there any dangers in doing this?

Also have you noticed stability issues with 10.3.7? If not maybe I should do a clean uninstall of 10.3.7 and then reinstall 10.3.7 to see if it works better.

Any uninstall does NOT wipe out plugins. There is no uninstall that is not recommended, just general descriptions on what happens with each uninstall version.

Thanks! That worked! PT 10.3.5 now back up and running. But for some reason now itunes cant lock onto the 002R like it used to. I checked system prefs and the 002 HW is selected. Can't recall the other things to check. This is such a pain in the neck. Thanks again everyone for your help!!

I discovered a strange thing with the whole iTunes/PT 10.3.5/002 issue. I could not get the 002R to launch with itunes using the 002/003 drivers labeled 10.3.3 (which worked in the past). So I decided to see if I could just run PT 10.3.5 using the 002/003 version 11.0.0 drivers. It works! At least so far it does. And the 11.0.0 drivers allow iTunes to play as well. The only thing I could find different between the two drivers is that the 11.0.0 drivers provide and additional interface label of "Avid 002". When selecting this in the system prefs under sound instead of the "Digi 002 HW", I am able to run bot PT 10.3.5 and iTunes. For the life of me I cannot figure out why this works. Just in case though, does anyone know of a reason why I should not be using the 11.0.0 drivers to run PT 10.3.5? I don't want a session to crap out on me while I have a client in the studio.

FWIW, I stopped trying to get non-PT audio to go thru my interface a long time ago. At first, I fed the audio from the computer sound card, to the AUX/Alt inputs of the 002/003(hit the Alt to Mon button for all non-PT audio). These days, I route all thru a Presonus Central Station and feed optical SPDIF from the motherboard to the CS(and again, hit a single button select Pro Tools audio, or non-PT audio). Doing it this way avoids the possibility of a hardware conflict(one program WANTS the interface, but another program has control and won't "let go"). Also, the quality of the SPDIF out is easily as good as thru the interface(still talking 002/003) and I went to sound properties and adjusted the volume to match PT volume) Food for thought
