Default I got my first Mac today

Hey guys, I bought my first Mac today!

Got the macbook 13, 1.83, 512mb ram 60 gig hd

I am installing everything to the system drive untill I get an external HD

So far it is working off of the system drive, I have followed all troubleshooting (disable dashboard, airport, etc..) but am getting tons of -6101 CPU overload errors and buffer errors when running plug-ins. Will adding more memory and the external HD stop this?

Can someone give me a SPECIFIC Hard Drive model that they are using with their macbook 1.83 core duo?

So far, i love this machine. My dell crashed as soon as it booted up earlier this week and NEVER ran PT for more than 10 seconds at 2048 buffer. I just hope I can get this thing to work PT. I am using a Dell desktop 4550 right now and it is working better than my Mac....hopefully that will change!

Travis

I have nearly the same computer as you, except I upgraded to a total of 1 GB of RAM.

I'm using a LaCie 250 GB external hard drive. I have not had a single bit of trouble with ANY part of my setup.

I was having trouble getting everything running, until I upgraded to PTLE 7.1.1c. It was a pain, because I had to go from 6.9, to 7.0, to 7.1.1c, but it is absolutely necessary. Making sure that you have properly installed the upgrades will ensure proper performance.

Good luck!

A second drive is a good idea, but probably not the issue causing problems here. I'd start by upgrading to at least 1G of RAM, and make sure to use the correct ProTools LE version for an Intel CPU.

I recently acquired an iBook 1.33 and it has no problems playing back 20 tracks with 20 plugs, this is based on using an external firewire drive and only 512MB of ram. I have upped to 1GB since but i suspect your problem is the internal drive, also check that all the plugins you are using are Pro Tools 7 compatible as that will cause problems also. I use an OWC 2.5" firewire 400 enclosure with a travelstar drive. Its a great enclosure because it draws power from the firewire bus so no clunky powercables to lug around. This also allows you to pick a drive of your choice so it's possible to get a 7200RPM should you so wish.

Cheers

512M is a little low on an Intel Mac, especially if any PowerPC programs are using Rosetta.

On a PowerPC Mac like an iBook, you can get by with 512M, but it's not too hard to push it to where it needs more.

I guess I need verification that I am installing correctly>

I downloaded 7.1.1 install for mac-intel, installed it, installed 7.1.1cs1 after that.

Do i need to install the LE disk that came with the mbox first that has 6.8.1 before I go with 7.1.1?
I know digi says that a previous version is not required to install on their support page for 7.1.1

Do I now need to uninstall everything and install 6.8.1 first then upgrade to 7.1.1 for intel?

You just answered your own question. If it installs and runs, it's installed.

Def get more RAM, add a 1g stick and you're laughing...
I get 150 plugs on 32 tracks off the internal drive with my sig.
Make sure all your plugs are compatible.

Cheers,
