Default NUDGE

PT 5.01
when I highlight some audio in a region and try to nudge it using the +/- keys, it does not move the audio. it only works if i create a new region and then nudge that region...anyone know how to just nudge whatever I select?

thank you

I think they changed that in 5.0, It used to automatically create and seperate it, thus allowing you to nudge it, now it will only act on a fully selected region.

Just do a quick "CMD E" to separate region...What you selected will become its own region and remain selected, therefore allowing you to nudge with +/- keys.

So there is no way to nudge part of a region withough CMD E creating a new region?

It does still "lift and separate" in 5.0

actually I prefer that it does as it does in 5.0.1, so may be it should be switchable.

Problem with seperating the regions is you then have to name it

you don't have to name the separated regions if you set preferences to auto-name separated regions...

but jim, what do you mean by:

It does still "lift and separate" in 5.0
actually I prefer that it does as it does in 5.0.1, so may be it should be switchable.

by lift and separate do you mean let you highlight part of a region and nudge it without having to make it its own specific region?

i am looking to nudge just a part of a region without having to command E at all....

thanks

In 5.01, the nudge behavior reverted to pre-5.0 style.

5.0 introduced a paradigm that really screwed most editors. So it was put back. Granted, they can't make everyone happy,but......

Yes, set to "auto name separated regions".

yes Visual, in 5 you don't have to separate first. Hiliting and nudging automatically creates the region and moves it. (you would probably want to have auto-name on)

But as Danny says it is only that way in 5. Not 4 and not 5.0.1.

I find the capability to nudge portions of audio without going through the bureaucracy of creating regions so essential to my use of Pro Tools that I've held back on upgrading to 5.0.1. I guess I see Digidesign's point in reverting to the old way, but from my perspective I consider it a big step back.
