Default Bass amps

I was just trying to get everyones opinion

I am buying a new bass amp cept I dont know what to get
I have narrowed it down to 3 heads
Ampeg stv3 pro, SWR 350x, and a Mesa Boogie Walk-about

I am in a jam/groove band like phish or the Disco Biscuts
What do you think

I've had good luck and great sounds with the Ampeg stuff! I used a 3 pro for quite a few years before I went with the 4 pro for more power.

If you go ampeg, make sure you get a newer one with a transformer on the xlr output to help eliminate buzz or you'll need a di box.

And Sean,.... send your old bass teacher an email since you dissed him!

Ha!

Three letters-
SVT

I have used a 3 pro for years. I used to use an SVT classic head, but it was a bit large to lug around. I also have used the 4 pro, but i think the 3 pro sounds better. not sure why, it just does. of all the SVT choices, I have found the 3 pro to be the most versitile, and i think its a good choice if you go with ampeg.

I had the chance to test every Ampeg there was (in 1999).So i grabbed a B-2,because i wanted this 'round' and fast bass sound along with tight mids.(It's a fender vintage precision '57 BTW).
Well it's the best amp i have ever played with.
I also checked some trace-elliots,but i didn't like the fact that, every bass you plug-in,sounds the same.

Hello,

I have used an SVT II since 94. This is an awesome amp complimented with Eden cabs. The xlr DI out is very clean and I have used it for both recording and live. I previously used a trace elliot and also have to agree that all basses sound the same.
I also use a bass pod pro when looking for different modelled sounds for recording but I tend to record the svt along with it. It just adds such a full sound.
Hope this helps.

cheers.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the ampeg or the SWR. I have tried both and while I wasn't as impressed with the ampeg as everyone else, I liked both. Both of them can be pretty thumping when they need to be.

I like the ampeg for rock and the swr for jazz, but I haven't played bass in a while though....If I remember right, the wierdest thing with the ampeg was that it sounded completely different in every venue, where as the swr seemed a little more consistent. But when the svt is rockin', man it's rockin!

If I had a nickel for every SWR I've fixed over the years.....PSU caps mostly...I'd have a lotta nickels.

SVT. Proven rock solid.

Hope this is helpful.
