Recommendations for an Express 54 firewire card?
I'm looking at getting a firewire express card for my Windows XP laptop.
It's an express 54 slot - anyone have good luck with any particular model? That is, in terms of PT compatibility? I'm looking at: http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pid=1040

Re: Recommendations for an Express 54 firewire card?
I have a SIIG 2-Port Firewire 400 express card and use it regularly with PTMP 7.4 and an M-Audio 1814 on a Toshiba Satellite 205 with Vista Home Premium (SP1). No issues. It uses a TI chipset. Won't supply power to your FW device unless you buy the SIIG power adapter for it. Not an issue if your external device supplies it's own power.
Why Firewire 800? I didn't think Digi had any FW 800 devices. Greg |

I don't need FW 800, only 400. I have an express 54 slot, so I could use an express 54 or 34. I looked up SIIG Express 54 firewire cards and that's what I found, backward compatible to 400. I'm looking for anyone who's had good luck with any particular model. I just can't use a cardbus. Is this your card? http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=NN-EC2012-S1

Re: Recommendations for an Express 54 firewire card?
Wango,
Yes, that is the ExpressCard I have. I will add that I was very frustrated trying to zero in on a Firewire ExpressCard that would work when I was trying to find one. Seems to be very little info on either the DUC or the M-Audio forum about firewire ExpressCards. Digi doesn't have any listed as "approved". I bought this one because I have a SIIG 3-Port firewire PCI card in my main rig and it has always worked very well. So I rolled the dice on this card because of my prior experience with SIIG and the TI chipset. The EC2012-S1 works for me. Greg |
