Default Audio playback slower and detuned - bitrate mismatch??

Hello,

I have had no problems on protools using the internal clock thusfar. However I have now purchased a preamp that has SPDIF out which is causing problems. When I record the audio comes out fine but if i listen to the track again with the preamp off (ie. now using the internal clock) the audio is slower and detuned. If i turn the preamp back on the audio comes out fine. However when it comes to bouncing down I have not found any way to come up with the right speed and pitch.

When I select clock source in the hardware menu both internal and spdif say that its at 44.1 even though clearly there is some sort of mismatch.

What can I do?

Is there any way to bounce down using the spdif clock?

Thanks,
Paolo

Pro Tools doesn't recognize whether the incoming clock on S/PDIF matches the session sample rate. Pro Tools may say it's at 44.1, but it's actually at the mercy of whatever clock rate is coming in the S/PDIF. When using the pre, you need to set the clock rate on the preamp and when you create a new Pro Tools session, set the session rate at whatever rate you have the preamp at. If you're just doing music, always have the pre and Pro Tools sessions at 44.1. Your problem has arisen because while Pro Tools thinks you're at 44.1, the preamp has actually been at 48.
