Stretching Algorithm
Hi guys
So I'm working with this artist at the mo who's using Final Cut Pro and she can stretch audio "down to 5%" (which is sort of an arse-about-way-of-calculating-it I know, but I'm presuming that means 2000% in Tools-stretch) and it still sounds pretty smooth, in a sound-designy sort of way. All the Tools algorithms on the other hand sound bumpy as f**k at this sort of stretch value. So I guess my question is, can anyone recommend any kind of stretching plug-in that'll do this kind off mega-stretch that doesn't result in it sounding embarrassingly bad? Seems a bit crappy that I can't make something in my audio world sound as good as she can in her video world. Thanks :) ps I have Melodyne but there's no way (as far as I can tell anyway) that you can tell how much you've stretched the audio by in terms of percentage. |

Re: Stretching Algorithm
Maybe Serato Pitch n Time, but i don't know if it's still competitive to others these days. It was best in the old days if i remember correctly...

if that does not sound crappy to you, http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/paulstretch/ could be worth to try. Not a plugin, but standalone, free, can produce fantastic things.

Neither can stretch down to 5%, but you could try multiple stretches. 30 day demos are available: Pitch 'n Time Pro $799 Pitch 'n Time Pro has a range of 1/8 speed and through to to 8 x speed, and pitch shifting of up to ±36 semitones https://serato.com/pitchntime-pro Pitch 'n Time LE $399 Modify tempo from 1/2 to 2x of original and simultaneously pitch shift by ±12 semitones https://serato.com/pitchntime-le

The closest I've come to it so far is setting the tempo to 100bpm, putting the section into Melodyne, and then setting the tempo to 5bpm, which is resulting in a pretty smooth mega-stretch with the correct %. |

Paul Stretch is also available for Mac OS. I had it installed on my iMac a couple of years ago, so can confirm with certainty. Fun app, horrible interface. Can't complain due to it being free. Hehehe... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Stretching Algorithm
I use pitch'n'time, it's an amazing plugin. But it still can't stretch poor audio quality beyond 80% without any artefacts.
You will be limited by the audio you're inputting, higher quality audio will stretch further. For example a 44.1/16 simply doesn't have the information to stretch that far, but a 192/32 has many times more samples which will be able to stretch out further.

Re: Stretching Algorithm
Ah yes I've just found it, thanks. Though it's for OS 10.6. Wish me luck....

Good point. I had installed on a SL partition.
Fingers crossed it still runs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
