Don't know why I was excited to read this.
It was obviously going to be just the usual CEO yadda-yadda that has no substantial and/or informational value for us users. I think, even shareholders would tune out half way through.

But hey, good news: Avid does not plan to sell PT.

I dunno. He seems to have a grasp of the value of the user base. Which is something I've always felt was Pro Tools biggest asset.

People in general need to stop hating anyone in a suit.

I do not hate anyone in a suit, and I do not hate that guy in particular.

All I'm saying is, that after I read what he was saying I was as entertained/informed/educated/enriched as before, rendering the time I spent reading moot.

And what did you expect this guy to say? "If it weren't for their money, I'd throw poop at those stupid-arse users of our products."?
Of course he says, what he says. Every CEO says that.

Meads.

I'm sorry. That wasn't directed at you personally. It's a generalization that it seems to to be popular to hate on anyone near the top of the corporate ladder in society these days.

One of the interesting things in this article was his mention of R & D a couple of times - that they've really been investing in it. That makes me curious about what new products we'll see as a result of it.

Avid's consoles and live sound lines are way way overdue for replacement.

I can't see them returning to locking third party hardware or software out however I wouldn't be surprised to find 64 bit PT well integrated into any new hardware. They would want to add significant value to using the combination beyond what any third party products would be able to do.

He mentioned the products of the R&D cycle coming to market. He is most likely referring to the DVCPRO HD decoder for the Nitris DX, the ability to use any video interface with Media Composer or Symphony, the ability to use any audio interface with Pro Tools, the black interfaces for Pro Tools, and HDX cards. The last pieces of the R&D cycle are most likely Pro Tools v11 and any new hardware goodies that only work with that version of software.

Fact - The word community appears in that article eleven (11) times. Hopefully he will be speaking with said community.
