I don't know where it stands for you, but personally I'm over trying to wow clients with a mixer looking thing. Desk full of gear does the job, throw some meters and faders on that sucker and we are good to go, nice display case for the mics. Etc, it isn't that hard to wow people with gear.

What I want is the maximum amount of workflow in the least amount of space, in this sense the s6 design is winner, and having to have a half empty frame is a real loser. The d-command + 16ch expander was a better design.

I would say we are waiting for artist series 2, but the drag there is the S6 parts look like they would be worth the cash to me. Faders next to quality meters is so overdue in the controller market it's painful, and integration of a good touchscreen AND hardware to me is the way forward.

The shame here is Avid could save themselves a bundle in R&D costs and just make the S6 the answer for the mid and high end markets. Even the config lifer is asking for there wouldn't be cheap, but it would (assuming) be very high quality. And the post guys need the big multi-op setups anyway. I just don't see what they have to lose, but what do I know...

You can build the modules in a desk without a chassis/frame. The small unit we showed at IBC and AES was exactly that: very small and ergonomic. I suspect several people will design a curved layout on a desk as well...

Great thanks Tom, so do we still have to buy the whole m10 8-5? Or we can put it together piecemeal? It would seem that taking the cost of Xmon and the frame out would be fairly substantial.

Are there pics of the small unit somewhere?

Hi Ryan,
The X-Mon is optional for the M40 systems. Currently, the minimum config for either M10 or M40 systems is the 8 Fader, process, 5 knob with master section.
Here's a photo of the M40 16 fader system built into a custom AKA desk:

Tom...

That looks way sharp! I will be really interested in seeing it once all the pieces are released...

And while we're on the topic of "pieces" and "XMON", a question, if I may...

On this page: http://www.avid.com/US/products/Avid...res#tech-specs reference is made to XMON S6 monitoring system.

Is the XMON S6 different from the Icon XMON units, or is it just a name-game?

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Looks really nice. Building a new mix room now. How much does something like that go for?

I think that's a base S6 M40. In the $60's I would think.

It's the base D Control replacement, so whatever that cost.

The cost really comes down to how much a month the lease is relative to one's business.
