Default I would like to commend Avid for 10.2 documentation…

In the past, I had been critical of Avid (and other software companies) for not fully disclosing known issues with their software at the time of release. I believe it is critically important for us end users to fully understand the ramifications of installing a software upgrade.

To that, I would like to acknowledge the Read Me document associated with the 10.2 update that is now available. It contains over 20 pages of information regarding the software's functionality and potential conflicts. It also offers suggested solutions to many of these issues.

Thank you Avid for taking a large step in the right direction when communicating with you customer base.

The read me for mac can be found here:

Yes, but that document seemed to be missing the fixes made in 10.2. As far as I could tell, it was only the known issues. What's new in 10.2?

Beat me too it :). Neither windows or Mac have the fixes and features in the update readme No idea what's been change outside of the AAX plugs on windows that I saw fly by at startup. But I do agree the list of issues is a mark of professionalism.

Yes, but after 20 pages of all the reasons you shouldn't use this upgrade, they forgot to mention any benefits or fixes. It's like the pharmaceutical commercials on TV that spend all the time telling you why you will die if you take their pills! So, what are the improvements?

You're welcome, glad it helped.

We have also posted the "What's New" info (and linked to it on the 10.2 Update page).

Thank you for posting this. Can you clarify what these mean?
  • Export as Text improvements
  • Additional bug fixes and enhancements include the following areas: Automation Editing

Has the bug been fixed where you lose all automation when you drag/drop a multi-channel clip to automated but inactive mono tracks with the same plug-ins?

Details about what bugs specifically were fixed would be highly appreciated. These kind of bugs highly influence workflow because they can mean lost automation without noticing it. Would help to know about fixes in detail not just a general "additional bug fixes" note.

Listing fixes and improvements in detail was a good habit and tradition. Why disguise the fixes while listing the known issues in detail? The listed issues are a nice change of politics but it would be sad to move the fixes and news to a very hard to find and brief web-page at the same time.

For me the bugs fixed section used to be the first thing I read before updating. Now there's just a "additional bug were fixed" note. Makes it difficult to decide which update to install and which one to skip.

Thanks!

Frank.

HEAT is DSP only, for now any way. No word of it ever coming to native land.

I agree with the others above, that though I really appreciate disclosing the known issues, it would really be nice to have specific notes on what was fixed in this release (and all future releases).

I've installed 10.2 and I'm loving it, by the way…
