Default Need Help With Room

Does anyone know a specialist in NY that I could contact to tune my room.

I'm working in a small 2nd bedroom that's just for recording and I know the acoustics suck so rather than buy a bunch of traps and foam I'd rather have a pro figure it out for me.

I'm good for recording with a reflection filter (somewhat) but monitoring is a hassle because the room is an L shape.

Thanks in advance.

Carl

Hi Carl--

How can I contact you? The members list thing on this forum seems to be disabled, and nothing happens when I click on your name. (There's also supposed to be "email" button I can't find on people's posts?)

Anyway, I'm in NYC, and had a good guy help me with mine. If you're in an apartment like me, it still might come down to panels and traps, but I think he could help you from whatever point you're at. Lots of experience with making odd project spaces workable with an eye towards low $$$'s.

anyway, let me know

Kevin

Kevin

I changed my options so you should be able to send me an e-mail. I added you to my contacts as well.

I appreciate your help.

Carl

Check out Speakers from Equator Audio Research.
They digitally correct themselves to compensate for your room...And, they do this in a way that is very impressive.

Kevin,
I know this is totally of subject , but how is your HD4 Accel in a Magma PCI-X 4-Slot working with Protools? Does it work with 9?

No issues outside of a procedural workaround regarding RTAS, described below. You also have to make sure with that generation of Magma that you are using the ones with the "Pericom" chip in them (last generation). Ariel in support at Magma is the man.

The only thing is using RTAS on auxes, or after TDM plugs on tracks adds extra delay for some reason than if the cards were resident in the machine. Don't know the technical reason, just remembering earlier posts about this. So I just take care to use any RTAS as the first plugs in the chain on audio tracks only, then make sure I have an array of TDM plugs for the things I need on auxes, especially reverbs (ReVibe, TLSpace), and various compressors.

You could search my forum user name and probably find other posts I've made earlier about this. Details about the fan, making sure there's a load on the power cables for drives, etc. Again, talk to Ariel in support at Magma. He totally chilled me out on all this. good luck

Anyway, I should be clear--I'm using the latest PT9 in the last Snow Leopard version. No issues other than software bugs that everybody gets and are eventually fixed in subsequent software releases. I'm looking forward to hopefully using my cards via Thunderbolt on a laptop. In the meantime I'm rocking the MacPro quad-core.

I talked to magma about the thunderbolt. I asked if they are supporting PCI. they are not sure because Intel hasn't said anything yet about supporting PCI

Well, to use my 4-slot PCI with my Intel machine, I'm already using Magma's PCI-E host card. And there are a number of Thunderbolt to PCI-E adapters already out there. So you have a PCI-E host card in the Thunderbolt adapter, and the question is will a machine with Thunderbolt see those PCI cards through two layers of adapters (PCI-X >>PCI-E>>Thunderbolt) as well as my Intel machine now sees them through one layer of adapter (PCI-X>>PCI-E). You just need to try it on your machine, and if the machine sees them, and the cards pass Digitest, you're good to go.

Again, talk to Magma tech support, because the sales people who answer the main phones usually only know the basic features.
