Another point of view would be extra buttons to mess with. I do lots of live gigs and extra buttons is godsend when you have another pair of hands right beside you.

But in studio, ITB is the way to go. Surround reverb does not need to cost 10k anymore.

I think you'd be making a big mistake if you don't put Cinematic Rooms (from LiquidSonics, the makers of Seventh Heaven) into consideration. I've been a reverb junkie - hardware and software - for ages and I've not yet heard anything in software form that's as good as CR as a reverb suite. I do have Seventh Heaven Pro so I'm familiar with it and including that in this statement.

It's a different beast than the LX480, which nails the 480 sound, a sound that has great character but is less "natural." Seventh Heaven would be considered more natural. But Cinematic Rooms does both, and it's a step forward from Seventh Heaven, which is great -- I'm not knocking it. To my ears, there's still just a hint of processed tone - the convolution sound - in Seventh Heaven. Just the smallest hint. I don't get that from CR. It easily fools the ears into believe that the instrument is in the intended space.

The good news is that you're looking at top plugins, so the odds of making a regrettable decision are slim.

Thanks Eric Lambert - you may have helped me understand the differences a bit better. Growing up around Lexicon stuff and liking Lexicon stuff - your comment about the reverb being "less natural" I think kinda sums up the differences I'm struggling to identify…

Will also check out Cinematic Rooms...

Thanks,

Sparky

+1 on Cinematic Rooms, it is just fantastic.

Frankly all the Liquid Sonics verbs are great. As great as a hardware Bricasti might be it is simply not practical for all uses. For instance post production.

ReLab's 480 seems to nail the sound pretty solidly. I don't know that you'd be able to tell the difference with the real thing in a mix. But I think it would be a good 2nd or 3rd reverb, not first choice.

Yeah.. it’s surprising me a bit how I’m kinda leaning towards the Liquidsonics plug-ins...

Both Seventh Heaven and Cinematic Rooms are nice...

I worked in a studio with a hardware 480L for several years. It always felt like putting another instrument into the mix if that makes sense. Had a distinct tone to it.
I always went for our EMT plate first.
I have 480 impulses in Altiverb I've never used.
PhoenixVerb just seems to nail it everytime for me.

I like the Sonsig Rev-A... great plug in.. You can also get the subscription for a few bucks a month and get all 4 of the reverbs and test drive them all

This is an interesting take - what you are saying kinda "reverberates" with me (pun intended)

Still have a few days left of the demo period on all these... but gotta admit - I keep going back to the Seventh Heaven stuff...
