I still think VST support could simplify things. I never said there wasn't change in the VST camp. The fact that they are now on version 3 simply means they're adapting. I suppose the same could be said for AAX. But, by simply adopting VST there would be two benefits. 1: You would all of a sudden include a lot of potential new users. 2: developers would only have to port their plugins for one new format.

As far as importing sessions from DSP to non DSP, I'm sure that you could code in an option to search for Native equivalents in VST upon import.
Then again you're not reading through.

Adopting vst as the plugin format would mean also adopting the vst bridge to dsp, which as Dave has pointed out, would result in a whole lot of latency and other problems. It's not going forward, it's going backward for dsp users.

Now on the other hand, if PT included vst only for native use, that could make sense, but that would be a whole lot of things to change into the engine again. Not really what's needed now, while the switch to aax is needed for PT to move forward.

There's already a VST-RTAS wrapper for that, and FXpansion has confirmed they are working on an VST-AAX wrapper. Or you can use VE Pro, Bidule Rewire, etc.... There are plenty of options for using VSTs in Pro Tools already.

If VST support were ever built into Pro Tools, I'm sure it would be based on the same principle(A wrapper). They've already implented AAX, it's not going away anytime soon IMO.

Yeah but the wrapper isn't ideal as it's an other load on the cpu. And never stated that AAX should be going away
