Default Dell Precision/Digi 003 factory

I thinking of purchasing a Dell Precision M6800 with windows 7 , i7 3.4ghz quad processor, 16GB of Ram and 500GB SS drive, but it doesn't have an 1394 firewire port but it has an Expresscard 54mm slot. And I wanted to know will I have any problem using a expresscard SIIG 2-Port Firewire 400 cardbus (NN-EC2012-S2) with my Digi 003 factory and Pro-Tools LE 8.

Thanks for any info,

It looks good, I don't see anything specific that would be a road block. Keep in mind that PT8 is only 32 bit, so you're not going to get as much of a performance increase as you would with PT11 (4GB ram limitation with 32bit). Also, you mention the 500GB SSD, but you should also have a separate drive for sessions. Here's the Pro Tools requirements for PT11, I'd base everything off it, in the event you want to upgrade.

thanks alot, and I do have an external 7200 1TB that I record on, and I would run everything off the external as I've did in the past. I have been thinking about getting pro-tools 11, but don't know if all my waves mercury plug-ins will work on 64Bit. And if I get this Dell Precision which is window 7 64 bit. I want to make sure that the 54mm expresscard would work with the Digi 003 interface.

What do you mean by, run everything?

Do you have programs installed on the external drive, or are you storing audio samples there?

In short, is there anything on that external drive other than Pro Tools sessions?

Just rockin'...what more is there?

I once got a digi 002 console running on a laptop with express firewire card if that helps.

I only use the external to record with. I have no programs or anything else on it.

Thanks, because thats what I'm trying to see. I'm just wondering if the expresscards work with the firewire of the Digi 003, and I don't want to buy this laptop if its expresscard slot won't run my Digi 003. I also can get my hands on a Sager NP8275 which has an firewire port, but I would have to spend alot more than I want.

Cool...sometimes people actually install Pro Tools on the external drive, so I've learned to ask if there's even the slightest ambiguity.

In the words of somebody..."Carry on"...
