Default Something new is coming....

I just got an email from Sweetwater that lists some pretty good upgrade deals on HD Systems. Knowing them and how retail works, they would only offer these deals if they were trying to get rid of product before it becomes outdated:

Digi 001/Mbox family to Pro Tools|HD1
with FREE 96 I/O - Reg - $9,990 - Now $5,995 - 40% Off

Digi 001/Mbox family to Pro Tools|HD2
with FREE 192 I/O - Reg - $14,990 - Now $7,895 - 47% Off

Digi 001/Mbox family to Pro Tools|HD3
with FREE 192 and 192 A/D card - Reg - $19,285 - Now $10,995 - 43% Off

002/003 family product to Pro Tools|HD1
with FREE 96 I/O - Reg - $9,990 - Now - $4,995 - 50% Off

002/003 family product to Pro Tools|HD2
with FREE 192 I/O - Reg - $14,990 - Now - $6,895 - 54% Off

002/003 family product to Pro Tools|HD3
with FREE 192 and 192 A/D card - Reg- $19,285 - Now - $9,995 - 48% Off

The future is near....

I do think that Avid/Digi is finally waking up to the fact that HD systems are starting to look way overpriced in todays market. OK it was fine a few years back but now with native power and competing DAWs where it's at the existing HD retail prices are looking ridiculous Lets keep hoping for Avid to think smart and deliver a serious pro tools system that combines the best of native with HD - if they did this right now, they still (just) have the potential to clean up but more and more people are making hits with Logic and Apple are beginning to eat much further into the 'pro' market.

I have seen deals like this a couple of years back as well.
10% unemployment sales are down.
Recession.

Tone you are right on the money. My PCI/G5 is starting to show it's age.
I can drop 15 to replace it OR get a BLOWN out Logic rig/Apogee for about 7.

Waiting to see what Digi does...

Knowing a bit about marketing myself, I'd say that this sale doesn't point to anything specific, other than the fact that they'd like to sell some product.

New products? Not necessarily. They did skip AES. Where better to introduce new products?

it costs a lot of money to booth up at AES...

and especially everything costs more in NYC.

so i have to say...

that may have been both a wise and (sadly) unfortunate choice

hopefully the money saved is being spent on something that will benefit us

i hope digi realizes finally that they need to get their current products respectably functional
before unleashing new stuff we really don't need.

Maybe sell enough product to keep the lights on a little while longer, generate some cash flow through Xmas? If the next PT update is just a no cost compatibility release for SL and Win 7 and there is no big upgrade to peddle for the holiday season or near term than it might make sense to move some HD hardware out of the warehouse. I tend to think that if something new was right around the corner they would be introducing it at AES.
