Satellite Link Recording - 2 beep drifting

We're trying to record stems from our A and B systems onto our C system.

AES into Digital 192's. All 3 Macs are PT 8.1.1, OS 10.6.8, Satellite Link 8.0cs1.
Each digital 192 has a designated Sync I/O, all PLL. Lucid SSG 192 feeding wordclock and video ref to everything.

We play a 2 beep at a certain time code from both our A and B machines into the C machine. Every single time we record it, they end up in different spots on the C machine. When you zoom in you can see the beep from A and B be either half a frame late or early from where it should end up. Sometimes both late, sometimes one late one early, it's all over the place and different every time. I don't understand how it could record earlier than when it originated.

They're low-traffic, gigabit networks with good switches.

Any idea what is causing this or how to fix this?
Or if PT 10 fixes this?

If you are treeing your stems into a PM and have delay comp active on the stem auxes you could be seeing ADC variations as you change plugins etc.
ADC=blue on stems that feed mixes.

We normally have delay comp off, but we tried enabling it to test - same thing.

I should add that we're not changing around plugins, we're hitting record and seeing where it lines up without changing anything. We could do 10 tests in 1 minute and they would all be in different spots every time. It seems completely random.

If your video reference is valid and set up correctly, this should not happen. Are you absolutely sure that all machines are receiving the correct video reference and that the Sync HDs are set up correctly?

We had this exact same issue briefly with one PT rig running a SyncHD and the other a std model SyncI/O when resolving to house 23.976.

Resolved when BOTH rigs had identical SyncHD's.

I'm pretty sure they're setup correctly but I'll check again.
And I'll see what versions of Sync hardware they are.

We had the same problem this week as well.

It will not work with PT 8. Avid admitted this to us and said the bug is fixed in version 10. We had to record on from our B PT to the A system and the B system had to chase via LTC.

Works fine here for us. Basically the same setup except we are on os 10.6.6 and are using the madi interfaces instead of 192s. Rock solid everytime. And it's PT 8.1.1 aswell.

What is the video codec and frame rate and what flavor of video reference are you using?

Check your buffer settings...... Try 512, if not a heavy session or closest. Sometimes they act up. Esp in v8.
