Default BW G3/350 (400) performance tests with 001

Hi all,

I just picked up my Digi001 from Guitar Center in L.A., and bought a BW G3/350 overclocked to 400 MHZ, 192 MB RAM, with 6.4 (5400 RPM) and 20 GB (7200 RPM) IDE drives. I am running OS 9.

This is the performance I am getting using the demo Session supplied with the CD.

24? tracks (16 bit)
17 EQs (4 band)
9 Compressors

I am very pleased with the sound quality and the number of plugins I can use in realtime (26+). Out of curiosity, can I swap the CPU for a 450 or 500 MHZ chip? :\ (wicked grin)

Regards,

Chuck

Welcome to the club! If you forego a few of those 4 band EQs for 1 Band EQs, you'll be able to load a D-Verb or two.

Yeah, and I wish my G4/400 were a little faster, too. Next year, they'll have the G4/800 and then, in 2001-2, they'll have the G5 at 2000Mhz (no kidding - that's the plan). IBM/Motorola haven't given up anything about the G6 except that it's on the drawing board.

Will we really need TDM in a couple of years? Probably only if we're doin' 96 tracks and want to run a few DirectConnect samplers and such.

Newer technologies has G3 and G4 upgrades for the B+W tower machines. Point your browser at www.newertech.com. Okeyday?
