Default PT9 Raydat

Anyone using this under OSX? Would love to hear experiences. I need more IO than what my Apogee Ensemble is providing, this seems perfect, and its PCIe.

The RayDat works great with PT9 and OSX.

Solid as a rock. The mixer app that comes with it works like a charm.

I'm very happy with it.

are you using totalmix for cue mixes? how is the latency with using pro tools at low buffer settings. what converters are you using?

thanks for the response.

I'm only using the AES and SPDIF I/O for now. I had to use total mix to get those inputs routed into PT because they are inputs 33-36. My convertors are a HEDD 192 and Benchmarck AD/DA 96K.

I'm running at a buffer of 64. I haven't measured the latency with Total Mix but it's minimal. There might be some figures floating at RME's website on that but mixing through the card provides no noticeable latency.

Perhaps some other will chime in. I wanted to go PCie with my setup and I'm really happy I did.

i am very surprised there are not more users. i am struggling to find any info about this card with pro tools. it seems the perfect solution for none HD users wanting all the IO and wanting to use their own converters.

especially since the lightbridge and presonus deal have been discontinued.

I too am looking forward to getting off firewire and going pcie.

It's fairly new I think but it's using an older technology (ADAT). So if you go to 96k or above it cuts down on the number of channels. Still i think grabbing this with a used AD 16 would be pretty cool.

I think you'll be happy with it.

you guys using mac? which pcie slot you using? will it essentially eat up two slots, or will it fit directly above the graphics card with the expansion card in the dummy slot?

Using RayDAT with PT9.0.2 OSX 10.6.6 - no problems other than having to perform some routing tricks to use the AES and SPDIF in/outs (33-36). Pro Tools won't access them directly.

I've done cue mixes both with TotalMix and also through PT. Honestly - it is easier through PT - and - at 64 samples playback engine, performers really cannot tell the difference.

The biggest problem with the RayDAT - or any lightpipe-based system - is that you need to re-patch your optic lines if you switch from 48k to 96k.
