Default I have a few Questions

Hello, Im looking to get back to pro tools. I tried out m-powered a while back and did like how PT worked but was not satisfied with the m-audio/00x card quality and obviously did not have enough for an HD rig. So now that I have a good setup and I can use my RME ADI-8 (I think) i want to try it again. My set up is as follows:
Mac Pro with 2 x 3.2 GHz Nehalem, 24GB RAM, 120GB OCZ Vertex2 SSD (main drive), RME RayDAT, RME ADI-8 Pro, UAD-2 Quad, JP8080, BM15A, Mackie C4 Pro and an.

My main worries are the RayDAT and ADI-8. Will this work fine? I mean the machine is as powerful as it gets but not sure how compatible the soundcard/converter will be with pro tools.
Also I'm not sure how Avid works. In another words if there are problems and get fixed. Do the release "free" updates or like Steinberg charge for them?

-Thanks

Avid as far as I know doesn't charge for updates. In the +-2 years I've been with them, I've only seen them charge for full version upgrades, like from PT8 to PT9 etc.

Do they continue fixing bugs on ver 8 or are you forced to move to 9? For example.

Oh that's a good question. I haven't been with them long, but I don't think they keep adding updates to older versions.

Does anyone do that? That'd be awesome but senseless from a business standpoint. Kinda like getting GM to put ABS in a 1964 Impala for free because a 2004 Impala comes with it!!!

That's not true. CS updates for 7.3 and 7.4 continued into summer 2009, a full 18 months after the release of PT8. Version 8 users can still expect CS updates for some time I think.
