Cross-grade question? G5, HD2 to...

I presently have a Mac G5 and a pro tools HD2 (pcix). I am about to pull the trigger on the cross-grade.

Money has been tight and I was thinking of just getting a quad core mac and an HD1? I mostly compose and mix (40 tracks) and record vocals, drums etc... or small groups. I do on occasion do large mixes 90 tracks and also on occasion have 10 VI's.

Should I spend the extra $2500 for the HD2 and the 8-core? Is the 8 core more important than the HD2?

Will going from a G5 and HD2 to a Quad core and HD1 feel like an upgrade?

Anyone else done this lately?
