I would just buy another ATA drive, set it up for OSX, and put it in the slave position in your computer. That way, you can leave your present OS9 system completely unchanged. When you want to switch systems, just change the start up disc and restart the computer. A new drive is only $50 or $60 these days, so it's also a cheap way to go.

By the way, since you are making the switch, you should probably go with 10.3.2 or 10.3.4.

You should:
1. Physically install the drive 2. Put the OSX Install CD in your drive and choose to install OSX. At this point your mac will boot from your OSX CD. 3. When the install menu appears go to one of the top menus and choose OSX Disk Utility. 4. Format your new drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" 5. Return to the install screen by quitting Disk Utility. 6. Install OSX to your newly formatted drive. 7. Download OSX 10.3.4 update from Apple. (Don't use automatic Software Update, as it will update you to 10.3.5) 8. Follow Digi's install instructions to the letter. You can reboot from your OS9 drive by selecting it in "Apple Menu/System Preferences/Startup Disk" (OSX) You can then reboot to your OSX drive by selecting it in "Apple Menu/Control Panels/Startup Disk" (OS9) Or alternatively, you can hold "Option" during startup and you will get a blue screen with "Rescan/Hard Drives/Startup" icons. |

Two drives is the best way to go. Even then, I had some Mezzo wierdness where Mezzo in 9 would ask for authorization, even though it was just done. I found that when the X drive was "apple y" removed from the desktop, Mezzo was fine. Our practice now is just to remove the unused OS drive from the desktop to avoid any complications. It has given less wierdness. And we are looking to dump OS9 altogether as soon as we can replace 3 serial MTP's with MIDI I/O's.
