Default Digidesign People: New Product Idea

Hey Digi:

How about making an outboard/rackmout 8 channel AD/DA box that uses the same converters found in the 002/002r, which would give us 8 more ins/outs to pro tools LE... we'd be able to use 16 channels of the same conversion as on our 002/002r's, and those converters are real nice... I'd rather do that than have 8 digi convertors and 8 other converters...

everyone else, do you agree? If you have an apogee rosetta 800 feeding your adat ports, you'd be drawn to use that over the digi convertors, but if you had this box it would give you a uniform sound over all 16 ins/outs...

whaddaya'll think?

~John

I wouldn't apply for a job in the Digi Marketing Department with ideas like these. You'd get laughed out of the office.

MARKETING, MARKETING, MARKETING!

How do you figure? He is suggesting that Digidesign, a hardware company, build a component for use with other Digidesign hardware and with known componentry/circuits they already manufacture. Easy engineering. He's not asking for HD converters or anything here, just 002 units. I think it's a solid idea and easy money for Digi.

I don't think dubaifox even knows what I'm talking about - yes I'm talking about some piece of hardware...I know nothing about marketing, I'm just a knob tweaker/computer daw guy like all us digi forum surfers...

while I bump this up to the top of the forum, anyone else agree with us?

let's get a vote going

Yes it will.

When it becomes profitable to do so.

Pro Tools is amazingly great. Not perfect but great. Even brilliant.

Between my Mac, my monitors, my one good mic, my Waves bundle, and my 001, I now have ten times the gear the Beatles had to record everything they ever recorded.

No it doesn't provide the signal chain of high end tube gear or the greatness of analog tape.

But damn guys... If you can't get some amazing stuff out of PTLE then maybe it's not the gears fault.

This is NOT directed at the original poster. I'm on board with the idea. I'm just bored with people
whining about Digidesign and their "heartless desire for a profit".

Hell, I want a profit too. And thanks to their unparalleled product... I'm seeing one. Digi ain't perfect, but bang for the buck I won't shop anywhere else!

How about making a dongle so that we can use pro tools without the digi hardware... using soundmanager (or whatever it's called in osx) for the audio outs?
Like every other piece of software in the world??
That way one could work on an arrangement / do some edits, etc. and not have to drag the hardware around too..

Just a thought.

sure, if digidesign wanted to shoot themselves in the foot... I think it's brilliant that you are required to use digi hardware with their software because it's a combination that they know works and that they have the most experience with troubleshooting/etc... a common problem with other systems, Nuendo/DP/Cubase/Vegas/whatever is that any sound card can be used with them, even apple's core audio, and that makes the probabilities of bugs and issues exponentially greater than those with digidesign hardware - so anyway, back to the original topic...

Digi 8-channel AD/DA rackmount box...anyone else want one?
